Do’s and Don’ts of Pressure Washing Your Home

Getting rid of the dust and dirt in your home is satisfying and should always be part of your routine home care. Just like gutter cleaning or window washing, however, there is a right and a wrong way to do it. The fastest and most efficient method is to use a power washer but this requires special care.

There are a few parts and areas in your home that should never be power or pressure washed. Knowing what and where these are should always be your first step. As always, it’s much better to have a professional handle the job. Let our cleaning specialists at Sunco Window Cleaning give you some of the basic do’s and don’ts of pressure washing.

Concrete

Pressure washers apply an immense amount of force to clean away dust deeply. This means you don’t want to pressure wash parts of your home that could break under such forces. Concrete, however, is strong enough to survive a power wash and come out looking as clean as ever. The same is true for bricks and other hardened stone-based exterior finishes. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s safe to power wash concrete tiles for your roof cleaning.

Vinyl

Vinyl is a common material used in siding and window frames. Vinyl siding is durable and can withstand power washing at least once every three or more years. This helps keep it looking brand-new and improves the overall appearance of your home.

Wood

You’ll find many siding and window cleaning professionals recommending a power wash for wood in preparation for staining. While this is generally true, some types of wood are soft and can become damaged under a pressure wash. It’s better to have a skilled and experienced cleaner do this job rather than risk damaging your home.
