How to Remove Dried-up Paint From Window Panes

Cleaning can be therapeutic unless the object you’re cleaning is difficult, in which case it can actually be stressful. For example, dried-up paint is so hard to remove, in fact, that roof cleaning is easier. However, you’ve seen shops paint their windows for the holidays and then remove them later so you know paint removal is not impossible.

How do they do it?

Let our cleaning experts at Sunco Window Cleaning show you some practical tips on how to get rid of dried up paint on your windows.

What You’ll Need

  • Bucket
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Water
  • Cleaning pads
  • Handheld razor

You can find window cleaning handheld razors made for removing paint on glass in your local hardware store. In any case, you may also use a sharp box-cutter to do the trick.

Cleaning Dried-up Paint

Mix warm water and dishwashing liquid in a bucket until you form suds. Using the cleaning pads, wipe away dust and grime from the windows with the soapy solution. Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it away with water. Once clean, soak up the glass again with soap and water, this time focusing on the area where the dried-up paint is located.

Aim the razor blade in a 45-degree angle against the paint-covered glass. Using a downward motion, scrape away the paint from the surface. It’s important to do this while the window is wet otherwise you will scratch the glass. You could also use a wet razor blade instead to avoid getting scratches on your window. The whole process can be tedious but with a little elbow grease, you’ll have paint-free windows in no time at all.
